We all agree that Marion had a serious lack of judgment. Being driven to what length at what cost? The shame of it all may not be the metals that were taken but the realization of the just how "human" our beloved sports heroes are. In the United States sports heroes are sought after as if they were chiefs. Awed by many, envied by most. One might even bow to them should they think they might be taken in by the athlete. The standards established to be competitive quiet simply are extraordinary. Almost so, that no human, without assistance can compete. Marion Jones, many baseball players, along with so many others, have fallen to the temptations to push the envelop. For what? Why do athletes feel that they must go to such lengths? Is it the money? Endorsements? Power and recognition? I must say I am especially effected when a woman falls short of her intended glory. I believe we all are great but must be careful that our choices do not end up overshadowing our value.
Well said, brigafor. I think the lure of reward for being extra-ordinary in ones chosen sport is too great for some of these athletes, that they seek any extra means to be above their competitors. It's sad!!
