Consider this...
Friends become more than friends and had spent several months exploring their new found relationship. Then one day the man takes the woman on an out of town venture where he chooses not only to tell her that he is a Nigerian chief but an extremely connected male and that the individuals that she had been spending the weekend were quiet influential. She knew he was formally educated and was attracted to him because of the man she thought he was. However, she was not aware of this status and was extremely upset when she found that the purpose of the trip was to tell her who he really was. He never exactly lied to her but he took her out of town to tell her and did it when she was in the midst of the proof that he was who he said was. Out of town was important because he was not sure that she would be comfortable with this information and feared that she might decide to terminate the relationship.
Should she have been upset with him for the betrayal?

I don't see it as a betrayal and I guess the man may have deliberately hid his true status from the woman,so she could love him for who he was and and not for his status, whatever that may have been.To have disclosed this in the midst of the proofs, may have been his way of saying,It's no "bs".
